Here's someone else's review of the show: Date: Sun, 9 Apr 2000 05:44:11 EDT From: Diane Wong Subject: Bucknell University, 4/8/00 All of you pretty pretenders, It rained the whole drive up to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania--but I didn't mind. After I parked along the street not far from the venue entrance (woohoo), I packed my turkey sandwich, Dr. Pepper, and umbrella and walked toward the entrance. And I hear, "Is that Diane?" coming from a group of intimate strangers shooting the breeze and having some smokes. Of course, it was Carrie Knepp, one of the friendliest IG fans and Amyist admirers out there! And across from her, was our famous birthday ~audra~ who I was finally honored to meet. :) Getting there at quarter after five, I was surprised to find probably around fifty people there, not much, but they were the faithful and the proud! It was great seeing the familiar faces and making new IG friends in line (playing hearts--the card game, that is). They had let the people standing outside in the rain in the foyer an hour before, and at 7pm they kicked us out to start the line outside. Almost 90 minutes later, they finally let our rain-soaked heads and bodies in the gym--we got patted down for equipment, and then, the famous run to the front. 'cept, I was tired and didn't sprint. Danielle Howle opened, and she was a total riot! I loved her so-called goofy-ness--probably, because to me, that's considered normal behavior. ;) She broke out her harmonica for one of her songs, and for Blister in the Sun, she actually started playing it on the wrong side. She talked about the big cockroaches in South Carolina(being able to squish their height and pop back into their full height after coming through a slit in your wall--don't leave cereal bowls in the sink after breakfast!), and she sang that "girl from the Flagtown" song. Her last song was a cappella and jazzy; and we kept the beat for her. Here's the setlist (finally!): Thin Line Wood Song Gone Again Soon Be to Nothing Jonas and Ezekial Get Out the Map Faye Tucker Hammer and a Nail (instead of Peace Tonight on the setlist) Romeo and Juliet Here I Am - Emily solo - a cover by ? (Neil or Tim, do you know??) Shame On You (on the original setlist, prior to CTF, and after LC) Ghost - a request, not on the setlist. Ozilline (Least Complicated was after this song on the setlist) Closer to Fine Encore: Cold Beer and Remote Control Blister in the Sun (w/ Danielle Howle) Galileo (Thanks, Andi, for letting me see the setlist you got.) I was surprised (a good surprise) by the opening song, Thin Line. And considering our discussion a couple days ago, the Wood Song was definitely a plus. Just before Gone Again, Amy had a conversation with the front row people--I don't remember what it was about. They seemed really friendly with the audience today, especially Amy. And they liked switching their setlist around for the crowd. Someone again requested "Watershed" and Emily said that they don't know it. Several people enjoyed hearing Hammer and a Nail tonight--the guy standing in front of me, on Steph Strassel's right side, knew all the words to every song, and expressed them fully with his body (he bended so far back, he almost bumped my forehead with his head). I caught Amy Ray looking at him, and we both smiled at his enjoyment. R & J was a big hit. *sigh* Here I Am was a different flavor from the usual, along with Blister in the Sun. So, which artist was Emily Saliers covering? One of the last choruses goes something like: "Here I am, I still carry a flame for you, It's still burning for you, here I am, here I am." A simple and beautiful ballad. (Three covers tonight!) Yeah, like Carrie mentioned, Amy forgot her first line to "[Jonas and Ezekial]", and said aloud to Emily, "What's my line?" and we laughed. I think Amy caught a wrong chord towards the end of the wood song, but we only knew by the look on her and Emily's face. I think their goofiness was instigated by Miss Howle. (cue Dragnet music) At the end of the show, they did the walk on the upper walkway, so the crowd waved goodbye--I love hearing the cheers as they pass by. Sulli was sprinkling out pics, and she also had extra setlists copied for the fans (4 more, outside of Emily and Amy's copies). The security men hustled us off the railings and toward the doors. Mandy and her friends went to hunt for the bus, and I followed. We met Lynn from the list, and she stayed with me through the cold and the snow. Amy came out an hour after the show ended and signed some stuff for us. Awww, Lynn got a hug. The bus driver said that Emily was already sleeping inside. Emily made a comment during the show about Country Cupboard Inn--how you go in thinking it's a certain place, and then, it opens up into a shopping mall! She goes, "I don't know why I had to share that, but I did." Amy said her friends have a window washing business (thus SOY's opening lines.) And lastly, the fashion report: Amy: still same blond streaked light brown hair, which got all static-y and mussed up toward the end, two necklace chains brownish reflective color, a beige shirt with it looked like brown thread embroidered flowers? with white centers in downward stripes, over a tiny black and white check, and blue suede shoes. No rings, maybe a watch on the right hand? Emily: glitter in the hair, glitter on the face, and later glistening with beads of perspiration and smiles, very sparkly; blue and white small plaid long-sleeve shirt, over white shirt, with silver-colored necklace and pennant, over black pants, and black boots; several bracelets left wrist, and silver watch with black face right wrist. Amy may have looked slightly thinner from her illness. And her eyes are like big black coals looking back at you. Anyway, that's what I get for being in second row after the first few songs. (A couple took pictures and then left--I hope it was for the school newspaper.) Hee, and Danielle Howle also signed my travel journal with a smiley face and her sig. nighty night IS, di
