Date: Thu, 5 Jun 1997 16:15:28 -0400 From: Andi Subject: My MSG & VH1 reviews I figured I would add my MSG & VH1 comments to everyone else's. First of all, someone posted a MSG setlist & then wrote, "Anyone remember the order? Did I skip any?" I wrote it down, & since this person (sorry, I forget who) got it a little out of order, here it is: Mystery Shame on You It's Alright Don't Give That Girl a Gun Ghost Tried to be True Everything in its Own Time Shed Your Skin * Get Out the Map Chickenman Leeds * Scooter Boys Least Complicated Burn All the Letters * This Train Revised Caramia Cut It Out Galileo Encore: Crimson and Clover + Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee Closer to Fine * = with Ulali + = with Joan Jett Some random notes: Even though MSG is huge (it wasn't completely sold out...there were empty seats way up high, but is looked almost full), & my seats weren't the greatest, I thought it was a great show. I was disappointed that they didn't use the screens, but it was cool looking through Chris's binoculars for a close up view. I thought Mystery was a cool beginning! Since the day I got the tickets, my roommate has been asking me if I thought they would pay it, since it's her favorite song. I thought she was going to die when they played the opening chords! GotM was a huge crowd pleaser! Everyone went crazy singing along. I have a feeling that it's going to become the new Galileo. Amy sang the Mr. Buzzard song in the middle of Chickenman. It went something like this (transcribed from the UNH boot): "I said, you see that old buzzard, he don't have no fun See that old buzzard, he don't have no fun Yeah, there ain't nobody glad to see him, and his work is never done Yeah, Mr. Buzzard, he don't have no fun Mr. Buzzard, he don't have no fun There ain't nobody glad to see him, and his work is never done" There was a cool SOC in the middle of SB, which was much longer than usual. I was so excited, & I started saying to my (non-listee) friends, "It's an SOC! It's an SOC!" They were like, "A what???" I have no idea what exactly Amy was saying though. The whole thing about the Jews before TTR was cool. Amy said something about how Franklin Roosevelt sent his support to that Jewish conference thing. Caramia was amazing! It sounded so full w/ all the instruments! I was looking around at the crowd during Galileo, & I got this cool feeling. There were so many different kinds of people...all ages & classes & races & sexual orientations & every other division you can think of, but they all knew the words to Galileo & sang along! Amazing! The people who held up the sign with the Newport question had a Romeo & Juliet request on the other side. I just found that interesting. I was also wondering who the woman who came out for CTF was...somebody must know! When Ulali introduced themselves, they said, YOU-la-lee, but when A&E introduced them, they said OO-la-lee. So which is it? It was cool to hear the songs w/ Ulali, & to think that those sounds actually come out of their mouths! Fashion update: Amy was wearing one of those shirts she always wears w/ red & black oval things & white pants. Emily was wearing a vertical striped shirt w/ yellow & red & some other colors & yellow pants. Speaking of fashion, the new IG shirt is almost as strange as the naked woman & deer buck. It's a strange green color w/ two women talking '50s style on the bottom. It's hard to explain. The other shirt is natural color w/ the SotS album cover on the front & the songs listed in a cool font on the back. Best IG comment of the night: "This is a very very intimate place."-Emily Best rude fan comment: "They should have named the album You Indi-GO Girls."-the rude guys behind me who talked about Frank Gifford for an hour Did anyone boot this show? No one searched us at either show. If I had known that, I would have brought my camara. Someone near me even set up a camara on a tri-pod, & no one cared!
