Date: Fri, 18 Apr 1997 17:52:35 -0400 From: Andi Subject: La Salle, Sonic Session, etc. The La Salle show was cancelled. A&E said it was the first time they've ever cancelled a show, but they're going to work something out. (Either reschedule it or refund money, I guess.) I'll e-mail my ticket people later w/ info. Anyway, Jen, Audrey, & I just got back from the Y100 Sonic Session, which rocked! It was so cool to be so close to them! They weren't able to stick around afterwards for pictures or autographs, which made me sad, but it was cool anyway. I think I had a permanent grin on my face! The setlist was: Get Out the Map Don't Give That Girl a Gun (little Q & A session) Cara Mia Shame on You Hey Kind Friend Galileo I have to go out now, but I'll post more later about this... Some people were asking why exactly La Salle was cancelled. If you call 215-951-1910, it says, "We are sorry to announce that due to health and safety risks created by surface water and high winds, the IG concert has been cancelled. More information will be available next week. Contact Student Life at 951-1371 starting Tuesday April 22. Thank you." I'll try calling, & I'll post if I get any more info. Jen posted some more stuff about the Sonic Session. It should be broadcast on Y100 sometime soon...they told Audrey that they broadcast them on Sundays at 9 AM, but that doesn't necessarily mean this Sunday. When I find out when it will be on, I'll post about that. I almost thought we weren't going to make it there, b/c we got extremely lost in Philly, but everything worked out okay in the end. We got free Nantucket Nectar & Pop Rocks while we waited in line too! I have a lot of random comments about it, so I'll try to remember them all, but that probably won't happen in any particlur order. A&E said a lot of funny things. E talked a lot. A talked less, but smiled a lot. I don't remember what they said exactly, but I'll try to explain them. When I tape it off the radio, I'll be able to get the quotes better. If anyone who was there wants to correct me, feel free. They didn't come right out when the DJ announced them, & when they did, A said something about how she was sorry they were late, but they were just hanging out in the back room & didn't realize it was time to come out. During the Q&A's, someone in the audience asked when they started playing together. (I think it was the first question too.) E said it was in 1981, in high school, which was "a really long time ago" & laughed. (I think everyone should be required to read the FAQ before asking questions like that. ;) Someone wished A a happy belated birthday, & A thanked her. At one point, E asked, "So, are y'all contest winners?" And no one said anything. So she asked why we were there...some answers were, "a friend of a friend," "my hairdresser," & Audrey's was, "We asked nicely." Someone said, "The will of God," so E asked, "How many are here due to the will of God?" and lots of people raised their hands...she said it was a pretty good percentage. Someone in the audience commented on the whole PSU basketball thing, & they explained it saying something about how they wouldn't let some of the women play basketball b/c they were gay. E said something like, "Imagine that...some of the basketball players are gay!" And they made some joke about wanting to go see the coach, & E said something like,"Yeah, we bet that she's a a huge fan." It was cute. And E's best comment about the whole basketball thing was, "Discrimination is a bad bad bad thing." (My new sig! :) A said that she was still in that "closing my eyes phase" b/c these were new songs, & she didn't know them all yet. And she really did keep her eyes closed for most of the songs. Jen was right...the audience was so quiet & respectful of all the new songs. They all sounded so clear. Jen noticed that E changed the lyrics to GotM on the "big ball of orange sinking slyly down the trees" line, but now I forget what she changed them too. On the "my wannabe harriet the spy" line in Cara Mia, some man laughed pretty loudly, & E smiled. I noticed that a lot of people were mouthing the words to Shame on You...Y100 plays it a lot, so I guess that's how people knew it. A&E let us sing a lot on Galileo, & everyone knew all the words, of course...A smiled a lot during that. They tuned their guitars a lot in between songs, which took some time, but they tried to talk while they did it. A was having problems keeping her guitar in one place (in the mic), & I think the recording people in the back were motioning for her to stay still. She doesn't like to stay still though! Sulli was so nice to us today. She talked to us at La Salle, & then recognized us at the Sonic Session, & was just the coolest. She threw out picks at the end b/c she said she couldn't choose who to give them too, so we'd have to fight for them...I didn't get one. Overall, it was a crazy day, full of high points & low points, but seeing A&E from that close up in such a cozy setting was just so amazing for me. I just love watching them! They mesmerize me, & being so close to them is just so surreal. Thanks to Audrey for getting the passes, & thanks to Jen for driving us there...
