Date: Wed, 25 Oct 1997 2:26:35 -0400 From: Andi Subject: University of Delaware review Tonight's show at Delaware was great! The set list was especially cool, & while we didn't have the greatest seats, the audience was so crazy & into it, & A&E were really chatty & smiley, that it made it a great concert. The audience knew every word to all of the sing-a-longs, & there were a lot tonight! A&E stopped singing & let the audience sing alone on a lot more songs than usual, & they kept commenting on how much fun they were having. Everyone stood for almost every song, & lots of people rushed the stage during the encores! Caroline Aiken was really great! I only have 2 of her CD's, so I didn't know the names of all the songs, so feel free to tell me the correct names. She was really funny though, & I highly recommend seeing her if you have the chance. A&E commented that they've known her for 16 years and that she's "the mentor of the music scene." Also, during Caroline's set, Amy was in the dark on the side of the stage, dancing by herself...it was so cute! Anyway, here's her set list: Haul Off and Kiss Me My There for Me Guitar Ground Zero Good Intentions a love song dedicated to David a song that went "don't want to be losing time" & "day by day" Left Wet (she told a funny story before it about being at the Space Needle in Seattle & how a couple was making out next to her) Love Ain't Going Nowhere And here's the IG set list...notice all of the sing-a-longs at the beginnning! Galileo Kid Fears (the audience did a weak version of Michael Stipe's part) Least Complicated Shame on You (after the end "road block tripping" line, Amy said/sang, "slow down!") Get Out the Map (Emily giggled at a group of girls dancing during it!) Shed Your Skin Everything In Its Own Time Tried to be True (the audience tried to sing, but we didn't sound too good, but then Amy said, "We mess that song up every night," & then said she knew that the audience was right & that she was wrong.) Prince of Darkness Scooter Boys (in the middle of this, Amy went over to the guitar techs & talked to them & then went right into Cortez the Killer.) Cortez the Killer (lots of Scooter Boys lines were thrown in, & they were going crazy & having a great time.) Leeds (on the keyboard) Romeo and Juliet (so cool to hear live!!! But the audience was singing really loudly, & while it seemed like Amy liked it, I can understand how that could bother her if the song meant a lot to her.) Thin Line (w/ Caroline Aiken) Power of Two "nuevas seoritas" song (great song! Amy played mandolin & Emily played banjo. Amy told a little story before it about going to Chiapas & the meaning of the song.) Chickenman (w/ Dave on harmonica & an SOC) Encore: Land of Canaan Closer to Fine (w/ Caroline & also w/ Jerry on mandolin) I saw a copy of the printed set list, & it was a lot different. Leeds was called "piano," R&J wasn't listed, but "??" was listed after "piano." (Maybe "??" meant the new song, & they just changed the order of it.) Cortez wasn't listed, & the encores were listed as Ghost and Pushing the Needle Too Far. Fashion update: Amy: white button-down w/ blue vertical stripes (I could see the top of her new tattoo clearly!) & pants w/ thick multicolor vertical stripes...Jess just pointed out that she wore the same outfit at Bates, & it can be seen at http://members.tripod.com/~sots/AMYSCOOT.JPG Emily: button-down shirt w/ multi-color patches of color & jeans Sara: white shirt w/ plaid button-down over it (which she took off during the show), black pants, & the red shoes Random quotes that I thought were cool/funny/cute for various reasons: "Ah, Friday night...in Delaware."-Emily "Sometimes we don't have anything to say...it's weird."-Amy "Y'all are good singers!"-Emily "I never expect to see so many people, but this is nice."-Amy "Sometimes we have more fun than y'all!"-Emily Other random comments: During the band intro, in addition to listing the various instruments Jerry & Sara play, A&E said that Sara's the "fashion advisor" & Jerry offers "moral guidance." The new guitar tech's name is Chad. A group of girls held up a "Can we sing with you?" sign, & they weren't called up, which further proves my theory that A&E can decide who they want to call up based on stuff we don't hear about. We went to the backstage door after the show, & A&E's bus had already left...they sure got out of there fast tonight! Jess & I wanted to get our sign from the other night signed, but no such luck. We did write them a letter thanking them for our experience at Lehigh though, & we gave it to Sulli before the show, & she said she'd give it to them. It's Jess now...Andi basically took over the review, but she does have more experience after all :) I would definitely say the crowd was so different from the Lehigh show with their constant excitement and very loud singing. A&E were more into the show and not only did they talk a lot to the audience, but they also talked a lot amongst themselves. It was pretty funny. Also, I'm not sure if this is why they changed the setlist, but I definitely heard a lot of requests for R&J. If anyone booted the show, we'd love to get a copy, although I'm sure you'd hear a lot of shouting in the background. We're pretty bummed we didn't get to see them and get our sign signed, but otherwise the show was pretty much perfect. I had a fabulous time!
